Unicorn Guidance

It’s been a very Unicorn weekend!  Naturally, it is to the Unicorns that I turn for this week’s guidance.

I decided to draw a single card, for the magick from a single Unicorn is among the strongest there is.  The card that came up for us is “Relax – Everything’s OK”.

Unicorn Reading April 27 002

Do you feel vulnerable?  Vulnerability is natural and sometimes it is necessary.  We need to allow ourselves to be vulnerable in our relationships, to allow others to care for us at times just as we care for them.  This is especially the case in romantic relationships.  Our partner needs to know that we trust them enough to be vulnerable.  We have to let down our guard in order to allow them to get closer to us.

Much like the Unicorn, some people need to be approached carefully.  Their trust is won over time, not freely given.  If things progress too quickly or they feel threatened, they will bolt and you will likely never see them again, at least not in the same way.  Their guard will be up, preventing us from seeing the “real” magick they bring with them.

Sometimes we feel threatened by situations.  Worry surrounding financial security is the number one cause of stress.  We start to question EVERYTHING from our job to our home to our car to spending even 5 dollars treating ourselves to lunch.  We slide into a fear-based mindset when it comes to money and no matter how tightly we try to hold on to it, we helplessly watch it slip away.  We stop opening our mail.  Stop answering the phone.  Become virtual prisoners in our homes.

 The Unicorns can sense this energy around us and are here to remind us that all is well.  We have weathered more serious storms than this.  Take refuge in knowing that they have come forward to support us and that the answers you seek will appear once we release the fear.

Selenite Alicorn

The crystal that came forward was Selenite.  I am fortunate to have this beautiful Alicorn in my collection.  Selenite connects to the angelic realm, spirit guides, and positive beings of light, like Unicorns.  It offers security and certainty to help you through troubling times.  It aligns the spinal column and promotes flexibility.  Yoga is an excellent stress-reliever and helps bring you balance, so place a piece of selenite near or on your yoga mat while you work out.  Large pieces in a home promote a peaceful atmosphere.  This calming stone instills deep peace, opens the crown chakra, and helps children feel nurtured.  It also comes in many forms, from raw to tumbled and even sculpted into hearts, eggs, and alicorns such as this one.  When you go searching for selenite, the piece that will provide the most help to you will call out to you and it may take a form that you were not expecting.

Now, what do George RR Martin and Peter S Beagle have in common?  (other than the fact they are authors, of course )  Stay tuned for the answer!

Redefining Myself

priestessbarge

I do not define myself by how many roadblocks have appeared in my path;
I define myself by the courage I have found to forge new roads.

I do not define myself by how many disappointments I have faced;
I define myself by the forgiveness and faith I have found to begin again.

I do not define myself by how long a relationship lasted;
I define myself by how I have loved, have been willing to love again, and how I still love.

I do not define myself by how many times I have been knocked down;
I define myself by how many times I have struggled to my feet.

I do not define myself by how often I have appeared a fool;
I define myself by the number of risks I have taken.

I do not define myself by the number of mistakes I have made;
I define myself by the knowledge I have learned from trying a new way.

I am not my pain…

I am not my past…

I am that which has emerged from the fire.

When Authors Let You Down

A subtitle should serve to give you additional information about a book.  A peek into the content.  An indication of what you can expect.

Unfortunately, in this case the subtitle proved to be very misleading.  I recently lost a very dear friend of mine and was given the book “Piece from Broken Pieces – how to get through what you’re going through” by Iyanla Vanzant.  So naturally, I thought it was a book about how to move through grief (in whatever form it takes for you personally) to the other side.  Ways to help you deal with the odd and unusual rollercoaster of emotions that you experience as you try to navigate your way through an experience that is deeply personal and at the same time Universal.

I sat down this weekend to read through it and soon realized it was not a self-help book but a memoir of the author’s life.  I kept reading, hoping that her healing process would be some sort of inspiration to me.  What I found instead was an ocean of excuses for her behaviour and repeated relapses into self-destructive patterns. About You

Her daughter died and she retreated to her bed for months.  She neglected her obligations and soon found herself in financial ruin.  Her reaction to her situation was mind-boggling.  “This is not my fault!”  I beg to differ.  Now don’t misunderstand, I know what it is to have the wind knocked out of you, leaving you wondering if you will ever recover.  I know what it is to have the wolves at the door and not know how you will appease them.  But what has to happen before we take ownership of our actions and our part in the situation?  No one is a passive participant in their lives, for even inaction is an action on your part and I hate to break it to ya, but you are responsible for the choices you make or fail to make.

Blame

Upon finishing the book, I felt angry and deceived.  “How to get though what you’re going through”?  I call BS on that one.  What I learned was what NOT to do when the shit hits the fan.  Curling up in a ball and weeping, fasting and praying, telling yourself that all you have to do is have faith and everything will be alright.  Those are passive actions.  Yes, definitely pray, light a candle, meditate, ask for guidance, seek help, release your grief, work with crystals, call your Pastor, go to a drumming circle, do some yoga, head out to the middle of nowhere to do some primal scream therapy, take up pottery, write down your feelings.  But at some point you have to take it upon yourself to use the tools that are presented to you and open not only your eyes but your heart to the path that you are meant to be on.  Avoidance and blame solves nothing.  In fact, it can make your situation so much worse than if you just put on your big girl panties, rolled up your sleeves, and took an honest look at your life and what you could do to change it.

Dig Deep

So I decided to look at how I was feeling and change my perspective.  Where is the lesson?  What can I take from this experience?  I reflected on events in my own life and how I dealt with them at the time, as opposed to how I would deal with them now.  I looked at how far I have come, even in the last year.  I found joy in the fact that I do not see myself as a victim but as someone who lives with the outlook that everything happens for a reason and comes with a lesson.  Am I perfect?  Far from it.  I am a work in progress but the key is that I am working on what needs to be worked on.  No excuses.

Speaking strictly as a writer, if you are going to put a subtitle on your book – ensure that it is accurate!  Don’t lead the reader down a dead-end road or set expectations that you can’t possibly fulfill.  Even if the book is wonderful, the reader will still feel disappointment.  You’ll still sell your memoir because a lot of people will be interested in your story.  But those who sought out your book because they thought it was about how to cook fish and instead found it filled with stories of your fishing expeditions and laments about all the fish that got away, you’re going to find yourself with a lot of disappointed (and hungry) readers.

Full Moon “Fairy Ring” Reading

I wasn’t able to do a reading for the blog on Sunday.  Rather than wait a full week, I decided to offer you a Full Moon Faerie Ring reading.  What better deck than the Fairy Ring Oracle?

I drew 8 cards and lay them in a circle.  The first thing I should point out is that they are not in order, but rather are two groups of four.  The card at the top being #1, then proceeding clockwise – 5, 2, 6, 3, 7, 4, and 8.  My intention was to provide guidance between now and the next full moon.

The first thing I noticed is that there are four cards dealing with Water and two dealing with Fire.  I also note that the predominant suit is Summer.  Take a moment, look at each of the cards, and see if one in particular calls out to you. (You will want to click on the image below so that you can see it enlarged)

Full Moon Fairy Ring Reading 001

I will go through the cards in numerical order, explaining the meaning of each, along with the meaning with regard to their placement in the Circle.  I will also offer whatever messages I receive.

Card #1 – Reveals your current life phase.

The Elder Queen

The Elder Queen is the Queen of the Summer Court.  When she appears in a reading, it indicates grace, warmth, protection, kindness, strength, and help from a friend.  She may also be here to tell of success in a current venture.  You will notice that she is very simply dressed which indicates to me that everything is not always as it seems.  Just because someone has a long list of credentials, a fancy house, and a designer wardrobe does not make them more able to help you or more knowledgeable on any given topic.  Now, I am not saying that those who have financial abundance are “bad”.  Definitely not.  But I feel that we often are too quick to judge.  Teachers take many forms and are often overlooked because of our short sightedness.

Card #2 – Shows what is behind you.

Tam Lin

Tam Lin is here to acknowledge the overcoming of trying times, release from a bad or frightening situation, recovery from illness, weight lifted from the mind.

His message is that you were able to “hang in there”, to weather the storm, to see your way though the darkness and into the light.  It was a lot of work and there were many lessons along the way, but you made it!  It’s important not to forget that or belittle your accomplishments.  You have done what many others could not and may serve as inspiration for someone in a similar situation.

Card #3 – Shows what is before you.

The Fire Drake

The Fire Drake.  Many of us are experiencing a time of restlessness and a desire for change.  We are entering into a cycle of creativity.  If we are able to harness and direct that energy toward our own endeavors, the rewards will be great.  Innovation and invention, paired with passion are fuel for a creative mind.

When this energy is present, it’s important to stay grounded.  You may need a bit of water to tame the fire, so that you don’t get carried away and end up burning yourself in the process.  A piece of jet, paired with aquamarine will do the trick!

Card #4 – Indicates weaknesses to overcome.

Fairy Horse    The Fairy Horse/Kelpie card is one of a few in this deck that are two parts of the whole.  Two ways of looking at a situation.  A need for perspective.  In this case, the Fairy Horse appears upright, so it is this creature that we turn to for the message.

He indicates movement and travel, journeys to new places and opportunities for new experiences.  Good health, vitality, energy, and innovation.  Change will happen quickly, everything will fall into place, progress will be made.  This is a case of “be careful what you wish for” and a time to focus on what it is you truly want and not what you don’t.  You attract what you focus on and – good or bad – it will come hard and fast.  Will it be yet another lesson or will you see the reward of all your hard work?

Card #5 – Shows strengths that need to be developed.

Asrai   Asrai.  Notice how she has one hand in the water and one reaching up toward the shore.  You cannot expect to move forward if you are afraid to let go of the past.  You cannot have both.

You will be faced with a moral choice.  It could be as simple as recognizing right from wrong.  Or it could be complex, with many options available to you.  Will you have to choose between the Spiritual and the Material?

Listen to your inner voice.  Before you say you don’t have one or that you don’t know how to use it, think back to a time when something “just didn’t feel right”.  THAT, is your intuition.  We all possess it.  It takes strength of character to abide by it, no matter what.  Is there someone in your life that constantly asks you to go against your intuition?  Perhaps it’s time for some distance, that you may gain some clarity.

Whatever choice you make, you must be prepared to accept the consequences.  Think it through.  Don’t allow yourself to be rushed into a decision by outside influences who have no stake in the matter.  You’re a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for (remember Tam Lin).  Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Card #6 – Indicates obstacles that lie in your way.

Ostara

The Fairy Festival Card of Ostara

Can you see the Fairy Island in the distance?  There is a lot of water in this reading, a lot of references to islands.  What meaning does that hold for you?

Dawning creativity, emergence, versatility, dexterity, idealism, individuality.  An idea or situation begins to crystalize and take form.  All of this amazing energy is fantastic, but often we get swept away with the idea and no thought is given to how we’re going to transform that into being.  Daydreaming is great, but there comes a time when you have to formulate a plan.

Emergence is a wonderful, transformative state.  It is the light at the end of the tunnel, finally being reached.  An awakening after a long sleep.  A breaking free of false beliefs and a release of what no longer serves.  Like anything else, you have to WANT to move forward.  Only then will you see change occur.  It can be hard to let go, but once you acknowledge that a person, situation, or state of mind is not healthy for you it becomes easier to release.  Once that is done, you can open yourself up to new opportunities.

Card #7 – Shows what will help you.

The Sea Mither

The Sea Mither (Mother) is the Queen of the Spring Court.

Do you see the lighthouse in the distance?  There are forces at work, guiding you to safety.  I absolutely love this card because to me, it symbolizes feminine strength combined with compassion, kindness, and truth.

Powerful, creative energies surround you.  Creativity can take many forms and mean something different to each of us.  For me personally, it immediately means writing but also ties into music and art.  For others, it may symbolize fertility, abundance, stability, partnerships.  It could even mean a happy marriage or the birth of a child (not necessarily your own).

The Sea Mither is a benevolent Fairy who brings warmth and seasonal calm to the island waters.  Under her rule, life and summer return to the sea and to the islands.  If you are like me and have a strong connection to the sea, call upon the Sea Mither to help navigate the storms, bring peace, clarity, and the ability to see the lesson in it all.

Card #8 – The Final Outcome of this Phase

Gwyn Ap Nudd

Gwyn Ap Nudd is the King of the Winter Court, the Welsh King of the Underworld who appears with his owl familiar and Glastonbury Tor in the background.  The Owl is a symbol for Blodeuwedd.  The Sisterhood of Avalon honors Her as the Lady of Initiation.  She calls upon us to seek out our truth and in doing so, become who we long to be.  She is also the Goddess observed during Emergence, someone to guide us out of darkness and into the light, bringing with us a new awareness of ourselves.

Gwyn Ap Nudd is here to indicate deeply buried secrets, things hidden even from ourselves.  Concealed fears, suppressed feelings, self-imposed restrictions, or bondages to the past.

He leads the Welsh Hounds of the Underworld on a hunt for newly-dead souls.  Any time that a reference to death appears in a reading, it indicates change.  The death of one way of thinking, doing, living, acting and the birth of the new.  This can be something as simple as giving up smoking or something as complex as a change of direction in your life.  One has to give up the old in order to welcome the new.  This message has come up again and again in this reading.

So it is time to ask yourself what you are going to have to give up in order to move forward.  It doesn’t have to be traumatic.  It can be as simple as giving up the false belief that you can’t accomplish your goals.  Take some time, ground and center, ask yourself if there is anything standing in your way.  Is there anything you can do to help yourself along?  Do you have a “dream squisher” in your life?  Someone who does not respect your boundaries?  Is there are habit that you would be better off without?  Are you procrastinating?  If so, ask yourself why.  Is it a fear-based reaction to change?  Is there something you need to do before you can move forward?  Or perhaps it’s time to change your focus until you are able to fully commit.  There’s no shame at all in recognizing you need to do a bit of work before you’re ready to move on.  In the long run, it will make your life so much easier.

The stones that come up for me in association with this reading are :

Aquamarine – this stone is associated with water and can help balance out passion, calm the stormy seas

Pietersite – to help you fearlessly move through change

Green Calcite – to help release what no longer serves with kindness and compassion, most especially for yourself

Jet – to protect you from other people’s emotional “stuff”

Clear Quartz – a master-healer, it provides clarity and focus

I am also guided to recommend the album “Celtic Mystique” by Howard Baer.  My father brought a copy back from a business trip years ago and I listen to it often.  I have found it strengthens my connection to the Fae and to the Celtic Lands where they are known to reside.

As with any reading, sit with each of the cards for a bit.  Gaze upon the Fairy Ring and see what messages wait there for you.  Take some time to reflect and come back to it later if need be.  This reading was very empowering for me, and I hope you feel the same.  Definitely post your feedback in the comments below, if you are open to sharing any messages you have I would love to hear them as well.

Bendithion!

It’s my Bloggy and I’ll write what I want to !

I’m a writer.  It’s not just what I do.  It’s who I am.  Perhaps it’s wrong to identify so strongly with just one aspect of myself.  But it is an identity I am comfortable with and makes me happy.   Stephen King quote

I have done a tremendous amount of research to determine how to best “brand” myself and to represent my brand to my audience.  I’ve been told that to stray too far away from that brand runs the risk of alienating people.  I’ve been told to “stay on point” and “only write about things that are reflective of your brand”.  How to gain more Twitter followers, how to get your blog posts noticed, how to entice people to “like” your facebook page and thus like you by default.

I learned a lot through this process.  The most important thing being that by stressing over all these details I lost my voice.  I was not only writing/posting less but I was also enjoying it less.  I agonized over having so few followers and thus tried to write what I thought everyone wanted rather than what inspired me at any given moment.  I lost my authenticity and my way.

Writing

I write.  It’s how I express my thoughts and how I work through my feelings.  I don’t share everything that comes forward.  Not by a long shot.  Either it’s total crap (yes, I am willing to admit that not everything I write is amazing) or it’s not something I want to share with anyone other than myself.  As I said, I use writing to help me work through things and not all of that is for public consumption.

I am very fortunate to earn a living as a writer.  So I write all day, every day.  I also write my own stuff and am always working on at least three projects at any given time.  That’s definitely not how some feel it “should” be done but it’s how I do things and I am very comfortable with my process.

So after a considerable amount of thought and reflection, I’ve decided to just let myself do what I do best.  Write.  Without any sort of agenda or rules.  At my own pace.  About whatever catches my fancy at any given time.

Interestingly, as soon as I let go I gained followers on Twitter and Facebook, started getting more feedback on my blog, and remembered how much I love writing.  So this is how I am going to do things from now on.  Sylvia Plath

Have you ever found life became easier once you let go?  Are there any preconceived notions you think you might be better off without?

Message from the Faeries

I was given a new deck for my birthday.  Brian Froud’s “Heart of Faerie Oracle”.  It has been on my wish list for some time and it did not disappoint.  (although I can’t see anything Froud-related disappointing)

I have been doing readings for friends with this deck and absolutely love it!  So needless to say, I chose to use it for this week’s reading.

I decided to do a three card, past/present/future spread.

Reading April 6 001

First up, The Magician. Reading April 6 002

Interestingly enough, the topic of manifestation has come up quite a bit lately.  Ellen Dugan is publishing a new book entitled “Practical Prosperity Magick”, due out in June.  The timing seems right, as many of us are trying to find ways to manifest finances via our creative endeavors.

The Magician reminds us that we can convince ourselves of anything if we put our minds to it.  But without the work behind the intention, we are simply wearing a mask and creating Faerie Glamour.  When the glamour wears off, we have to take responsibility for the situation we created and the circumstances we find ourselves in.

Have you recently come to the realization that not everything is as it seems?  Do you project an image to the outside world that is not in alignment with your truth?

Second, The Gift. Reading April 6 003

This card goes well with The Magician as it also talks of Faerie Glamour.  Oftentimes, gifts from the Fae are not what they seem.  But in this case, she is holding a very precious, very REAL gift for you.  The gift of wisdom.

What can you learn from your past mis-steps?  What knowledge can you bring forward to help you move on?  What have you done to make changes in your life?  What can you do now to ensure that you do not slide back into previous patterns?

“If you are willing to acknowledge the journey you have taken and the lessons you have learned, then accept her gift, freely given and richly deserved.”

Third, the Faerie of Growth. Reading April 6 004

When we move through challenges, we have the opportunity to learn amazing lessons.  But we have to be open to that.  In order to grow, change has to take place.  Are you willing to change?  You have the tools you need and are about to find the path you are meant to be on in order to move forward with your life.  But you have to be willing to take the first step.  It’s rarely as frightening as we often lead ourselves to believe.

Now.  Take another look at the cards.  Do you find any messages there?  Does one of them leap out at you, demanding your attention?  Feel free to sit with them for a minute or two and see what they have to say.
